Over a ten-year period, the landmark Paramount Studios building in Sydneys Surry Hills underwent a stunning metamorphosis, from derelict Art Deco relic to design-led city-fringe creative hub.

  • There are many facets to Paramount by a number of different designers and architects. Our work was foundational to the spaces that continue to evolve inside Paramount, having been tasked with restoration and reconfiguration of the 1940s building to support a number of new uses, some not even fully imagined at the time.

Paramount today supports an ecosystem of design and tech-savvy businesses and creatives around a light-filled atrium.

  • Key to the revival was reconfiguring the loading dock on Commonwealth Street, creating a new atrium under glass. This lofty, light-filled gallery space and cafe now form a very social side-street entry, leaving the original main entry for the commercial tenants. The remaining visible structure and materials were restored or complemented, and new services stitched into the redundant film vaults.

  • This thoughtfully remastered classic is again part of the city’s cultural fabric, with the Golden Age cinema, gallery/events space, serviced and private offices, and rooftop cinema/recreation club.

The space now breathes with light and air – a vibrant food, design, architecture, film and arts hub.
